FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The local hospital foundation received a $1,300 donation last week from the Fort St. John Petroleum Association.

The funds came from an auction at the 2023 Petroleum Association Curling Bonspiel from November 15th to 18th.

Spartan Controls had Brendan Bottcher, the 2021 men’s curling Briar Champion and Canadian World Curling Championship representative, speak at the bonspiel. Bottcher had also brought a set of official team jerseys to be auctioned off, and the Petroleum Association Curling Bonspiel committee decided to select a local charity the funds should go towards.

The committee unanimously chose the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation as the recipient.

The Fort St. John Hospital Foundation purchases equipment for the cancer centre, diagnostic imaging department, maternity department and more.

With the recent fundraising efforts of the Be an Angel Gala and the Light a Moose radiothon, the Hospital Foundation was fresh in the Petroleum Association’s minds.

“[It was] easy to decide that our assistance to this amazing organization would be beneficial to the community in which we work and serve,” said the Petroleum Association.

The Be an Angel Gala raised $103,000, and the Light a Moose radiothon raised a record-breaking $197,000.
