Edouardo Santos learned of the windfall when he checked some lottery tickets while running errands ahead of an international trip.

“I scanned this ticket and saw so many zeroes,” he said in a statement issued by WCLC. “I had to check the ticket a few times to make sure I counted properly.”

He kept his cool despite winning $1 million, he said.

“I put it together and got really quiet — I wanted to go home and tell my wife,” Santos said.

His family plans to use some of the jackpot to pay off their house and share part of the winnings with their daughters, he said.

“It takes us a step closer to retirement, too,” he said. “It’s a huge blessing.”

Santos bought his ticket from a 7-Eleven outlet at 815-2335 162nd Ave. S.W. The win was from a Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball Draw, a white ball with the number 36921325-01.

More lottery winners in Calgary and Alberta

Earlier this week, WCLC announced a grandmother from Calgary also become a millionaire.

A Lotto 6/49 player since 1991, Luciana Luistro’s ticket won $1 million on the Dec. 16 draw.

And if you’re holding onto a Lotto 6/49 ticket from March 2023, you might be sitting on a $1-million prize.

A ticket purchased somewhere in Alberta — outside of Calgary and Edmonton — won $1,000,000 on the March 8, 2023, Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball draw.

The winner or winners have one year to claim their prize, and that time is ticking away.

The winning number on that draw was 29731883-01.

Meanwhile, the Jan. 16, 2024, Lotto Max draw had one winning ticket sold in Alberta for the $70-million jackpot, plus a Calgary winner for one of the subsidiary prizes.
